Michelle O’ Gorman is a Wexford native and a Master's Practitioner in Eating Disorders. She offers therapy for those struggling with poor body image, anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and disordered eating. She has a unique insight into eating disorders, having first-hand experience, and her own journey brought her on the passionate road to helping others.
She has over 15 years of experience working in the area of eating disorders in a holistic setting. Michelle works with people of all ages from all walks of life. She helps them to gain freedom on an emotional, physical, mental and spiritual level with their eating patterns and turns destructive behaviour around. Michelle brings to each session her own experience of recovery and much more. Sessions are available online and in person
In this episode we talk about:
- A bit about Michelle and her own journey of recovery from a restrictive eating disorder
- How recovery is possible but that it often takes time and isn’t a quick fix
- The importance of the therapeutic relationship
- That relapses are a normal part of recovery and that self-compassion can help
- How Diet Culture impacts how we feel about ourselves and our self worth
- The “rule of three”
- That it is never too late to get support, even if your behaviours have been going on for decades
And much more.
I really enjoyed this conversation with Michelle and even though many of you may not be in Ireland, I have to admit that I like amplifying the professionals in this space that are based in Ireland, because it feels like we forget that are some amazing professionals in this country supporting people with their eating disorder recovery and finding peace with food, eating and their bodies.
