Listen now | In this podcast I speak with Lynn McGovern on the topic of orthorexia. This is a type of eating disorder, without an official diagnosis, but that cause a lot of distress. Orthorexia is an obsession with healthy eating.
This episode has been in my intray waiting for me for a while. I have spent my life interested in healthy eating and love food. Our daughter developed an eating disorder at 12 and I am really curious about what the boundary is between a helpful way to live and a disastrous one. The line to health professionals saying "don't be scared of what the eating disorder is scared of" has provided me significant for for thought.
I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's struggles. It is such a harrowing illness and a long often slow and painful recovery process. I like that thought of "not being scared of what the eating disorder is scared of".
I hope you find this episode useful and you might find the episode I did with Deirdre Reddan, from Supported Families helpful too. It is SE2 - EP2.
And thank you for your feedback. It is so lovely to hear from my listeners.
