When I say “body trust”, what comes to mind for you? Maybe you imagine that it is something that isn’t for you, for a whole host of reasons?
“I can’t trust my body, because it isn’t trust worthy” is a common thought I think. It feels like if you don’t follow all of the rules, and keep a tab on your self (weight?) your body will rebel and your weight will be out of control and, and, and… Perhaps the feeling is one of discomfort, fear and distrust. It isn’t possible for me to trust my body if I don’t keep it in check at all times.
This tactic works, until it doesn’t.
It works initially, often as a way to keep you safe and create an illusion of control, but trying to control our bodies through food and exercise rarely works long term. Hungers aren’t there to be supressed; they are to be honoured.
One of the things I hear most often on a discovery call with a new potential client when I ask them what they are hoping to from our work together is: “I just want to be able to eat like a normal person”.
What this means is:
- I want to be able to eat food and enjoy it without guilty.
- I want to be able to go out with my friends for dinner or a coffee and have cake if I want to, or not if you don’t.
- I don’t want to feel like I have to calculate and compensate for what I ate.
- I want to feel nourished by the food choices I make.
- I want to feel satisfied and content after a meal.
- I want to be able to leave food on my plate if I am full.
So, what stands in the way of you being able to do the same? Possibly Body Trust.
If trust and connection has been disrupted in the relationship between you and your body, it can be repaired and re-established, just like other relationships can. It requires curiosity, compassion and perhaps some guidance.
You may have searched for answers outside of yourself, for the next diet, for some lotion or potion or for some other thing to try and help you feel at home in your body. Again this is all fine, until it doesn’t work anymore. Then what?
What do you do when it feels like you can’t do another diet again?
When you no longer want to worry about every morsel you eat, but don’t know what else is possible?
There is a path to healing, beyond finding another diet. It is a path to find your way back to your body as your home, and for you and your body to be on the same team and that is what we will explore in the 8 Week Reclaiming Body Trust Programme.
Over the 8 weeks, together in a small group facilitated online we will read, reflect, share and discuss on a variety of topics that explores how the connection with our bodies gets disrupted (trauma, Diet Culture, weight stigma etc.) and how we can reclaim our bodies as our true home.
I will facilitate a brave space for you to be curious about how these things show up in you and your life and the beauty of being in a group is that you will also have the opportunity to learn with and from others.
In this 8 Week Online Programme I will facilitate you and the group through:

Wk 2 Moving away from Diet Culture
Wk 3 Non Diet Nutrition and eating for nourishment
Wk 4 What has grief got to do with it?
Wk 5 Allowing for Pleasure and Satisfaction
Wk 6 Reclaiming Movement
Wk 7 Deepening your Body trust roots and widening the healing
Wk 8 Wrapping it all up – Reflections and moving forward
We will use the book Reclaiming Body Trust as our container and explore one chapter in depth each week. I will provide guided reflections and discussions, as we learn from each other, as well as looking within.
This programme will help you understand why your body trust got disrupted in the first place and how you can be free from rigid thinking about health, weight, bodies (your and others’) and nourishment.
It will also allow for a deep dive into how the culture we swim in has a major impact on how we feel about our bodies, and help you move from seeing your body as an object instead of the home and vehichle it is.
