“You can’t fight physiology.” This was such a strong point and an easy reminder. As I was thinking through my past, a memory came up. Back in my days working for the newspaper, I had periods where I would make soufflés for dinner. I used to say I would do it on a particularly stressful day at work, but then I remembered, I had a long period of time when my only food during the day would be carrots. I was attempting to “fill up” on carrots, which now I see just wasn’t possible. There were emotional and deprivational reasons behind the cake. None of this was binging, but I’ve long thought the cake was “wrong,” when it was simply my body’s response to hunger and stress.

Wow Kristi, what a powerful insight. I think the "bingeing" due to undereating is so common. Even for people who are "normal eaters". The difference is that those people don't tend to over analyse their difference in food intake or food choices. They just get on with it.

I also believe that we really need to address the under eating / under feeding first, including mental restriction otherwise we will never get true healing. And in order to get there, we first need to let go of dieting and Diet Culture. Also becuse I find it difficult to get curious about how, and why we eat when there is a specifc outcome that is expected. Or at least one like weigth loss that we don't have that much control over.

Thank you for watching and for your feedback.

You know this, of course, but the big issue is that thanks to diet culture, we’ve all been taught to undercut our caloric and nutritional needs, and that this is not just normal but healthy.

Hi Linn, I came over from Mindful Consumer with Cait Flannders Substack. And through liking my comment I found Joyful and Nourishment Podcast. And I chose this one about HALT. It is funny how life falls into place. I so resonated with this episode. I will try for the rest of the week and get back to you on how it went. Thanks for the gift.
